Excellent information, Cindy. And it couldn’t be more timely, now that the high cost of pet care is forcing people to surrender beloved animals or not adopt in the first place.

Thanks, Rona. You are right. Shelters and animall impounds are struggling to keep up with the pace of surrender and the decrease in adoption.

Thank you for this comprehensive article, Cindy. It’s good information for pet parents. So much of veterinary medicine is corporate owned now, a trend that has been going on for many years. I’m interested to hear about the Mars corporation offering this blood donor incentive and their study. They are one of the main owners of veterinary clinics and labs.

It's the catch 22. Big corporate processes and policies can have negative impacts on small, local businesses. On the good side, they are the ones that can afford research at the scale they propose. I hope good comes of it.

Something I found out when my pet was very sick, Blue Pearl has a fund for lower income people. BUT your pet MUST have a good outcome from their diagnosis. Please do double check this. It didn’t work out for my little guy - liver cancer at age 4.

Ugh. That's terrible. Sorry to hear that about your little guy. You are correct. The BluePeral fund is for pets with a high chance for a good outcome. BluePearl is mentioned in this post because blood donors to their program can apply to participate in the Mars Biobank project.
